| | | | | | | | | STATEMENT OF ISSUE | | The City of Fairfield is considering a citywide broadband plan to address internal operational needs, support economic development and business attraction and retention, and improve consumer choice for residents. |
|
| | | | | | | | | DISCUSSION | On September 17, 2019, City Council authorized an agreement with Magellan Partners to develop a citywide broadband plan and supporting ordinances to facilitate and address 5G/Small Cell implementation within the City of Fairfield. In the course of developing the broadband plan, it became apparent that there is significant opportunity for the City to establish a broadband utility.
The supporting 5G/Small Cell ordinances will be brought through the Planning Commission at future meetings. Staff wanted to introduce to the City Council this new economic development opportunity by making a presentation on this topic. Staff will seek Council direction when this opportunity is presented again to the Council with greater detail to be considered during the upcoming Council workshop.
