SUBJECT:Minute Action Approving Mayor's Appointments to the Planning Commission, Measure P Oversight Committee, and Poet Laureate.

RECOMMENDED ACTION 
Approve appointments by minute action.
STATEMENT OF ISSUE 

The City Council is being asked to approve the mayor's appointments as follows:

 

Planning Commission

1. Lerecia Evans 4-year term July 1, 2020 - June 30, 2024

2. Melissa Cruzen 4-year term July 1, 2020 - June 30, 2024

 

Measure P Oversight Committee

1. Tehraleigh Martin Unexpired term July 1, 2018 - June 30, 2023

2. Eddie Ramirez Three-year term July 1, 2020 - June 30, 2023

3. Tim Tomko Re-appoint for three-year term July 1, 2020 - June 30, 2023

 

Poet Laureate

1. Bonnie DiMichele Two-year term July 1, 2020 - June 30, 2022

DISCUSSION

The Planning Commission has two seats available with expired terms ending June 30, 2020, for a four-year term from July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2024. The Measure P Oversight Committee has one seat available with an unexpired term from July 1, 2018, to June 30, 2023; and two seats available with a three-year term from July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2023. The Poet Laureate is a new position with a two-year term from July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2022.

 

Councilmembers Rick Vaccaro and Chuck Timm interviewed six applicants for Planning Commission on June 9, 2020. On June 11, 2020, they also interviewed five applicants for Planning Commission, three for Poet Laureate and two for Measure P Oversight Committee. Their recommendations were submitted to Mayor Harry Price for consideration.

PUBLIC CONTACT/ADVISORY BODY RECOMMENDATION 
The City of Fairfield advertised these vacancies on the website, by press release, Channel 26, and announced the openings at Council Meetings.  The City received twelve applications for Planning Commission, three for Poet Laureate, and four for Measure P Oversight Committee. Some applicants applied for re-appointment and were not interviewed.  
ALTERNATIVE ACTION 
The City Council may choose not to approve the mayor's appointments, leaving vacancies on the Planning Commission, Measure P Oversight Committee, and Poet Laureate.
